    Posted: 14 Jul 2019 at 3:06pm
Hi guys,
I have been making my own lures for a while. I use different sized bibs and expect that size to run my wooden lure as deep as the plastic ones in my tackle box. I noticed this is not the case. How (without visually seeing) can I see the true running depth of my lures? Any advice will be appreciated.

Check the depth with your sounder while checking where they hit bottom.

Without a sounder, then in a dam so there is no tidal influences, drop down a weighted line till it hits the bottom then measure that

Horrorhead used to do this on his topsail schooner a hundred years agoLOL.hey he's right though it works. When your trolling your lures and they hit bottom your rod tip will bounce a lot measure the spot where your rod first starts bouncing and this will give you a rough indication of how deep your lure runs at that particular trolling speed with that particular amount of line outWink
