Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone makes a specific electric sander for timber lures that will cater for both flat and curved surfaces And naturally there is a reason for me asking this question as I was playing around with something on my 3D printers yesterday and a variation of what I was printing could easily be altered to provide both a straight back and forth action and a rounded function like when you are twisting sanding pads around a lure. Couldn't help myself once the thought popped into my head so think will design and print one this week. Yep TB am at it again Cheers

Thanks Nicho,
Just to make it more challenging for myself, I am trying to alter gearing used so that the gear will drive in a straight line, but also when you change the entire unit into a semi circular motion the gearing drive is also curved / tapered to compensate for the angle change. I really need to find an auto stop button so don't make things so complicated. Printing updated version now - fingers crossed. Cheers Steve

Actually need to thank you Nicho as you inadvertently helped me come up with a more viable option as I thought about it some more after replying to your post and have come up with easier way to achieve both. Wouldn't have re-thought the process if you hadn't posted Cheers Steve

Well progress is underway as per the pics below. Unfortunately I didn't have a small motor available as a drive system so have had to make do with an extended adapter so can fit it to a variable speed drill, also had to steal some metal rods from an old DVD player and an ancient epson printer that was lying around. Apologies for the large pic`s, my computer decided it isn't shrinking anything today. Hope to have image of completed unit posted tomorrow, along with short video of it working. Cheers |

Getting closer,
Unit has been assembled and tested ( It actually WORKED and didn't disintegrate at high speed ), just editing video footage and will post as soon as editing is completed - Hopefully tonight. Already part way through designing a version that can be run by 12v variable speed motor which is far more compact and can get it costed to have either a Teflon or Aluminum version done via CNC Cheers

Okay hopefully this works,
Did a short video of various parts of the process along with its test run. Ironically I have no use for this as I make resin lures but when came across the gear drive I just couldnt help myself. Hopefully this link is active now - https://youtu.be/xiGKevYgJ_M Feel free to ask any questions or provide feedback on the concept. Cheers

Hi Martin,
It works better with the thin flexible sanding pad`s as for flat faces most would just use a belt sander I would imagine. I have already disassembled it to reuse the guide rods in the compact version as this sufficed for a test of mechanical parts. Cheers

What an absolute IDIOT,
Was just playing around with variable speed drill and released my stupidity , I had adjusted the speed alright - the whole way to flat out - was thinking to myself I swear this thing used to run slower Racken Fracken Cheers
