Sorry guys probably not the right section but I found these at a local garage sale, they are all timber and was have been molested. What I was wondering is can they be restored without damaging the original paint/lure?
Or seeing as I'm in Wagga and know and have bought custom lures from these makers would I be better off getting them to restore the lures or would this take the authenticity away from the original? (getting deep now hey!) Regards Shayne |

Good luck with the restoration, Shayne.
Looks like the 'custom' job was done with enamel. Hopefully, the original paintjob is 2 pack. If so, I'd choose 1 lure and try some solvent on the enamel paint. Not sure how it will work, but it may be worth trying some acrylic thinners or acetone. I'm only guessing, here .
Maybe you should call in at a local auto paint shop and ask them. I called into Auto Paint & Trade Centre, 59 Dobney Ave, Wagga last year, & they seemed pretty helpful and knowledgeable.
Cheers

Both Wayne and Steve use 2 pac as their top coat so you do have a good chance of getting the "custom work" off them and leaving the paint underneath intact, as Travers suggested I would start with Acetone, if that does not remove it try an enamel thinner, if you have to use thinners try something ethyl based rather than isobutyl, longer chain (slower) thinners will destroy the 2 pac clear, good luck, cheers Paul.

Thats interesting Paul, I would have thought Turps would be a good choice for removing enamel as it rarely affects 2 pack coatings and is the general thinning medium for enamels.

I would try a small amount of ennamel thinners first, then numerous others if it uneffective...

Turps would be my number 2 after Acetone, something tells me that it probably ain't enamel though, it looks a bit see through, but I could be wrong? Acetone won't hurt 2 pac either. Cheers Paul.

how did the restoration go Arn? suppose that at the worst you could have stripped them back to bare timber and clear coated that?
