I am starting to get a decent collection of Terry's older Garra lures together now so thought I would share. I had Terry confirm them all as his and give a rough age on them. I was surprized at how long Terry has been carving for with the two Z bib lures coming from the late 70's. the rest are 80 onwards. Interesting to see the evolution of the lures. Most of these are different shapes as he (and still does) carved up shapes to try with a constant change of shapes and sizes. Considering these were mainly sprayed with pressure pack cans and dipped in estapol for clear many have lasted the years in tackle boxes and shelves surprizingly well.

Last one is an old lure body & bib with a recent paintjob for comparison.

Alistar, I have about a dozen of Terry's lures but all are more recent make, he sure does a nice job. Interesting seeing the older lures, he sure has progressed(I guess all lure makers do over time).
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers

Some nice old lures there .Also interesting how the eyes are on the bottom half of the lure . In the 4th pic , top right ,,, that sure looks like a Feral Catt ,, just without the dip in the head  .   I noticed this as I have just done a copy of the Feral Catt Smile

All those lures had no names back then but he has kept a few shapes through to the current day. I would say the one you have highlighted is now known as a "Kanga" which can be seen in the below pic circled.

Also Jeff, you are right about the eyes. I was looking at that when I was taking the pics. Seems his eyes started under the lure / bib line in the early days, progressed up to the sides and now on most of his current lures they are moving back under the lure.

also a couple of prototypes

and my current collection, I really must get some more of his newer models to fill the gaps Confused

They are nice the old crinkle bibs. That one is probably from the same batch at the bottom green one I posted just with a 20yr old diference in paintjob. I would suggest that it is a bit more than 20yrs old as well but hopefully I will be able to get Terry on the site and he can confirm things like that himself.

Thanks for posting Alistair, I have several and enjoy looking at them. The first thing I noticed, that very first green lure on top, reminded me of the early Boomerangs, wonder if it was Terry's take on one?
Regards, Tony.

To me it looks more like the Kadaitcha shape. Late 70's though so I dont know what lures were influencing Terry then (I really need to get a bio done). I do know he attempted to make, with varying success some Flatfish style lures around the same time I have seen so maybe this was an influence.

Just picked up another 20 of Terry's old lures ranging from 20-30yrs plus (some from the 70's) in ageThumbs Up There are some really interesting ones which are obviously influenced by other makers such as Kadaitchas / Aussie 200's, flatfish, tadpolys, scorpion as well as Terry's own designs. These are some of the first lures he made which is obvious in the making of them but is really great to see in their early forms and am privileged to have them in my collection. I will be displaying these at the expo at Brolly's stand with a number of other lures I have including rare Newell's and Whitmores.

I was talking to Terry M yesterday in Tenterfield and he was hoping to make it up to the expo but he was on his way to the Dr's. He has a bug of some kind. Let's hope for a quick recovery.  Debbie D.

I will get around to doing small group pics but thought for now I would update my older Garra's. Some in here are of Terry's very first lures made dating back to the 70's. He has been around as long as any in the New England but his lures are still obtainable for most collectors, even the old ones which there are many still in tackle boxes 20+ years old.

Picked this up off ebay last week. It was not listed as a Marshall or Garra and was chucked in with a 3inch barra bait (anyone chasing a barrabaitLOL). Obviously a couple of other bidders had picked it as a Terry Marshall as it went for a reasonable price. I think it is a lot rarer though than what some may think as it is the only lure of this era I have seen that is towed from the nose. Terry did do a barra lure later on under the 'Garra' name which he sold through Sweetwater fishing and I expect this is a very early version of this 'GarraBarra'. I am waiting for Terry to get back to me with an age but guessing late 80's. Very happy to add it to my collection.

Photo is beside a late model GarraBarra.

I remember your post, hopefully it is not too long before I can do the same. Been a while since I chased any Barra, dam or river.

Impressive Alistair. I like the fact you have a couple of makers you collect and stay true to. Great lures, sounds like a great guy, keep them coming.

Cheers,

Danny.

Alistair, I have around 16 Garra lures I picked up new before first Expo and an early one with the small eye, this I traded at the first Expo Traders Table. Other than the early one, if there are any models you are missing let me know. Maybe able to fill a gap in your collection.
