So stoked about Paul's decision to make the 20th Anniversary lure set based on the 1992 Deception Yabby, thought I'd post a few of the first shape variations to screw with his mind while he's try's to work out which variation he will follow For the Deception Collectors, these are all separate collectible models, so watch closely what lures you have in your collection Some of the variations are subtle, PM me if you want more detailed pics of the variations - not sure even Paul's seen this set Hope you enjoy them, there is a second and third series if anyone is interested One of the first ever made in 1992, round / round, high cut bib slot, slight bend in bib, front eyelet on bottom, screw eyes. Round / round, high cut bib slot, deeper bend in bib, front eyelet in middle, screw eyes. Round / round, low cut bib slot, shallow bend in bib, front eyelet in middle, bib pinned for added 'security', screw eyes. Round / round, low cut bib slot, shallow bend in bib with double bend, front eyelet in middle reversed, screw eyes. Angle / angle, low cut bib slot, deep bend in bib with double bend, front eyelet in middle vertical, twisted wire eyelets. Angle / angle, low cut bib slot, shallow bend in bib, front eyelet in middle, screw eyes, square tow hole. Angle / angle, low cut bib slot, shallow bend in bib, front eyelet in middle, screw eyes. Very rare round / angle, ultra low cut bib slot, deep bend in bib with double bend, front eyelet in middle, twisted wire eyelets. |

OK, here are the Series 2 Yabbies which morphed into the final shape before the last one was ever made in 1994. These are typified by the square, cut-off back end, all with through wire tow points Pin eyed, twisted wire, square tail. Pin eyed, twisted wire, square tail, acrylic bib (?) experiment. Pin eyed, twisted wire, square tail, scooped bib. Painted eyes, twisted wire, square tail, flat back. Painted eyes, twisted wire, square tail, round back and getting very close to the final Series 3 Yabby shape which IMHO is perfection !!! Personally, I reckon that this is where Paul got it spot on - it was all about that higher rounded back which was perfected in the Series 3 Yabby when the square ends were gone forever

Thought I'd finish this post off with the Series 3 Yabby's which are my favourite Deceptions ever .... this is where the Deception Legend was born, IMHO Paul created the Deception legacy with this lure
Longer 40mm bib with rounded tail, twisted wire and typified with off centre eye iris's. Perfection in the 35mm bib final Yabby Shape in the quintessential Deception colour Enough said ..... |

Excellent post and great collection there Rob. Good detail on the 'differences' as he progressed as a luremaker.
l had a few early ones in the 90s...sadly all lost to sunken timber and fish

Very nice run through the history of the Yabby Rob I am still waiting to find 1 of the bloody things.
I hope Paul goes with the first one myself as it seems to fit into the 20yr theme best IMHO.

Yeah series one is what I intend on making, thanks for posting Rob. The second one down is indicative of the small run we did of this style Yabby before the change. The different bib slots and angles were more to do with the fact i had no band saw at first, and i was cutting the slots by hand, so each bib was made to suit the individual lures. Cheers Paul.

The angle/angle with yellow and black lace is my favourite. Then again my favourite Deceptions do appear to be anything sprayed through retro lace. Hard to beat.
