Been playing around, lately, trying to come up something that may be a feature for those people who collect my lures. I made a couple for my kids then, in the last few weeks, cut and carved a few more shapes.
I've made a couple of half Mega Diggers and thought that I should try to come up with a backing mount. The Cod shape is cut out of the 130+ year old pine inserts that I used in the boxes for the "Tenterfield +25 Year Sets", then coated with Danish Oil. So far, I've carved a few Mega Digger, a Mega Booma and a Mega Cod. The 2 Mega Diggers have been clear coated with acrylic lacquer, the Mega Booma has heaps of Danish Oil coats and the Mega Cod has had about 6 acrylic lacquer clear coats, but needs wet-n-dry sanding and a lot more clear coats. Also cut out a couple of Aussie maps and a Tassie map, out of 20mm cedar. Cheers Travers |

Travers, I like the backing mount just as it is. The grain in that wood is very pleasing to eye, not too busy. I would have two of them facing each other on the wall above my collection. It's a beautiful bit of wood.

I've been busy making a few of these things, with Cod, Bass, Barramundi & Flathead backboards, as well as the Australia and Tasmania cutouts. I've carved quite a few 'half lures' - Mega Digger, Digger, Mega Booma, Mega Cod, 5" & 6" Kaditchas, 5" & 6" Scorpions, 5" Mack Attack and Mack Attack Not too many completely finished, yet.
I made one for my young grandson, who loves to get out in the boat and loves 'making' lures (well, he likes the sanding bit!), the Australia map with a 5" Mack Attack. It's grandparent day, at his school, next week so we'll make the trip to Sydney and present him with his new piece of poppy memorabilia. I hope the Taswegians appreciate the land bridge that I built. It's actually there so that I can tow my new boat down to the Homebake Comp, in October. Cheers Travers
