A mate has asked could I request assistance through the site to perhaps track down a handle for an early Hardy fly reel.
I believe it is a relative rare model and around 90 years old I know it is a tough one , just wondered if any body happens to have a fishing store that might be still in business over the past 60 years or so. and could give me a telephone number so that he can ring them. Something that is rather scarce nowadays an old fishing tackle store. Thanks Regards John As you can see still in excellent order |

Dear John, the "Perfect" is one of Hardy's oldest reels and your mates reel is quite an old one of those. It appears to pre-date Hardy's Royal Warrant. Other Hardy reels I have seen from that era had bone handles on brass spindles so while you can probably buy a replacement handle locally (Hardy still sell new Perfects as part of their Heritage range) you would probably be doing the value of the reel significant harm. I think that you mate should contact Hardys directly (www.fly.hardysfishing.com) and see what they suggest. There are international collectors for reels like this one so long as they are correct. Regards, Ken.

Paul was able to contact my mate in Tassie he said he found out additional info on the reel and plaque with some photos on a N Z fishing site.
There maybe something of interest for you there.
