Hi All. I was really pleased to find this forum on Australian lure making.
I've been making soft plastic lures and more recently timber lures for myself, friends and family. I've probably made about 80 wooden lures (??) ranging from 50mm up to 200mm in balsa and red cedar. I've had some really good success recently on my 90mm minnows chasing Barra. It's such a buzz catching fish on your own lures. I haven't sold any lures as yet but that might change sometime. I'm a Cabinet Maker by trade so it stands to reason that timber lures are my focus now they are also a lot lighter to make than machining Australian hardwoods to make furniture (Redgum, Jarrah etc) I'm located in the Western suburbs of Melbourne. It would be good to meet other local makers. Once I browse the forum a bit more, I'll post some pictures of my lures I'm self taught by watching video's online and just pottering around in my garage nutting things out. Hope you like the lures I make. Cheers Adrian |

For silver ones I'm using insulation tape and the other colours I'm using various coloured tapes and holographic contact. Insulation tape is easiest to apply. Others are a bit dodgy with stickiness or flexibility. I heat it up but can only shape it on so much.
I also hand paint dots. I'm self taught airbrushing ( everything lure making actually) so need so get better at everything before I try selling them. |
