Hi there,
Found this lure this morning,
Sorry for the bad pic and not well organised post, doing all this from my phone...not very good at it yet...
Any way, what do you think it is?
An Elliot maybe?

Have a good day,
Pecheur

Regis, I think you may have struck gold. I'm fairly sure this is an early Peter Newell Scorpion, I have one similar I got from Alex Julius, made around c1983, does it have any remnants of a signature underneath and is the bib ribbed?, hard to see from the photo angle. Mine has P.Newell on belly one side and Scorpion on the other, very faded because Peter didn't seal his writing under clear-coat until later and they tended to rub off.
Bring it around for a better look and hopefully a more positive ID.
Regards, Tony.

I'm not convinced it's a Newell, the arse end doesn't seem thick enough. I'm leaning towards a rip-off.
But, hey, I could be way off the mark...........

Newell to me! Nice score and looks like it's seen recent action with some owner ST66 hooks.

The eyes, the paint and bars, tow wires and bib are very Newell, just the shape for the era seems a bit rounded at the rear. More like the later lathe Scorpion rather than the typical sharper edged rear end. If I was to make a call though by that one pic I would say there is more going for it than against so Newell would be my call. Rings and hooks are recent replacements.

G'day All, Regis' and the one I've posted are very early, around 1983 I've been told. Alex seemed to remember he came by the one I have thru Rod Harrison, during his PNG BlackBass days. Peter apparently made for that purpose, couldn't have caught any as no teeth marks on mine LOL. Regis' is slightly chewed, I'm waiting on his visit to study more closely, maybe from same batch as both sourced here in Darwin.
Anyway, I'm so confident of it's origin, I may even offer him a mint Moller as a swap Big smile.
Seaweed.

Hi there,

First apologies to all for being so long to answer your many replies, I was out of town for a few days, and when I came back, my internet was down.
But for once Telstra made things happen, and they came this morning and fixed the problem.

Anyway, I think that the best is for me to post a few more pics of the lure, so it might be easier for you guys to put an ID on it.
But please be indulgent, this is just a few quick pics done outside without lighting or anything, just some quick snap really.
So here come some more pics:

First one with a tap me sure so you could get an idea of its size.
And now some portraits...
Wink

There seemed to have been some marking under the bibs at one stage.

This one is the glamour shot...
Wink

Ok,
I hope that it helps.
If there is any thing else that I can do to make sure for the ID, just let me know.
And I will try to go and see Captain Seaweed as soon as I can, to have his opinion.

Have a good day,
Pecheur

Check Brolly,s Thread of his Newell collection and you will find references for your lure I think.

Cheers

I still reckon it's a scorpion, on the underside of the bib, itlooks like a $ sign and the "79" may be the year Peter made it?

Specially made by Peter for Rod Harrison - I have confirmation from Harro..

Thanks Gary, that was the PNG/Rod Harrison connection I was alluding to in my previous post. Glad that you've confirmed it, as mine was from the same batch. Not certain how AJ came by it, probably a gift from Rod, Alex is not a collector.

Hi there,

Thank you all for the very informative replies, I am impressed.
I do tend from all your replies to think that this is an early Scorpion.

I did get this lure from a gentleman, who told me that he had travelled to PNG to fish.
And he was actually selling some lures to fund another fishing trip overseas.
If I can, I will try to catch up with him again.

I will try to go and see Captain Seaweed soon, to show him the lure.

Have a good day,
Pecheur

Hi there,

Just to let you know, I have now swapped this lure.
And I now have my very first Eric Moller!
I wanted one for a long time, and now, I have one, thanks to Captain Seaweed, who kindly offered to swap for a very beautiful Moller, in mint condition, a nude Sardine.
I often thought that I would never have a Moller, and now I have.
I know that a lot of you have some, but for me that was till today, nothing but just a dream.
I am happy!
Smile

Have a good day,
Pecheur
