Red and black is a proven fish and fisherman catcher. Very nice.

Interesting that the name is spelt wrong. Definately a Newell and is only the second or 3rd I have seen spelt wrong. I have heard of a couple more.

Barry that's a very fine example of a fairly early Kad ClapClap and i also have come across that version of the spelling on a few occasions.

Interesting spelling! Wink  Maybe I didn't get the spelling wrong, after all.

I've been asked by a couple of members why I spell Kaditcha different to Peter's spelling. After 18-20 years, who knows why I spelt it - 'Kaditcha'.  After seeing this lure, maybe it's because that was the spelling that I'd seen on Pete's Kads.

Nice lure. Smile  Interesting that the stripes come around to the underneath of the lure.  Pete was very particular about the stripes not going too far under the lure.  He used to insist that when I sprayed Kaditchas, the spray gun had to be held higher than the lure, when spraying the stripes, to prevent the stripes going under the belly.

They are both nice Tony but that little lexen bibbed one  is pretty special looking.  Any idea on the age of it?

Interesting.

My first thought on the first lure in this post was "original fat bum shape with repaint and writing

by who knows"

Powelly's point about high stripes is interesting, and I wonder what Alistair's private thoughts are?

Have always worried about 3 or 4 different people signing these lures and the 3 or 4 different

spellings of Kadaitcha.

Cheers,Jim

Hi Alistair,

I have had that Lexen Bib Kad for nearly 12 Months and The guy i got it off had it in his tackle box for fishing along with another exactly the same. He has had them for a fair while and I know for a fact before Peter passed away as he stopped going up to tenterfield area when he moved away.  Alistair I reckon a safe estimate time would be 4-6 years ?  But don't quote me.

I don'y know anything about the different name on some of these and I know for a fact that this is genuine signed as the person who had them couldn't give a stuff about the collecting perspective of Newell lures besides the fact they caught fish Tongue

But I know it's a great little lure and wish I could have secured the matching small Scorpion as well Cry

cheers Tony

Alistair,

this is another pic of the Lexen Bib Kad and the original Hooks and Split ring if you can gauge a time frame ,if it helps any. Smile  As I took the hooks off pretty quick and threw them out.

Cheers Tony

The eyes say older to me but who knows. A lure of the age you think it is would generally carry the silver / red eyes. Before that the black and white. (and I say generally here as different colours/patterns were made upon request i believe). The colour is to my eyes an older pattern as well.

Perhaps Brolly or Warren are able to tied down the Lexan bib period if there is such a thing. In the end though I think you have a very nice little Kad there. The spelling is not an issue I think. Re Jim's thoughts on the different people signing the lures, my personal veiw is that due to the fact that all these lures were made to fish and the thought of people collecting them was looked upon by Peter with amusment there was no thought beyond having the Newell name and the model put on the lure to just identify it. Probably why so many made it out of the shed with nothing written on them at all cause fish cant readWink

Tony/Alistair,i have a few of the small lexan bib Kads and have reason to believe they came from the early to mid ninety's.Not to say there weren't some made later than that but as Alistair has pointed out the eyes and as well as the paintwork on Tony's would sugest mid ninety's.And as for the different spelling, well  i'm sure we reached the conclusion some time back that the spelling and maybe also the signee changed a couple of times and we've all seen several examples of this. And yes there is no doubt in my mind that in the early days Peter intended the writing as mainly for identification purposes.Approve Brolly

just putting my 2 cents worth in.....I have  closely studied the writing  on Newell lures many times and there are 2 stand out letters that scream REAL DEAL to me.
one is the flowing S on scorpions and the other is the K with the loop on the leg crossover with the upright.
I reckon the K is the way Kath signed her name as well, looks old school almost copperplate which would make sense as well considering the % of lures she 'signed' for Peter. The more standard looking K is probably one of the other helper's penmanship.

The 'mis-spelling' Confused I am sure there is a story there somewhere that will come to light one day.
