Hi I,m Ron Henderson ,I have been making timber Local Lures for over 40 years.
These were aimed at bass and jacks in Nth N.S.W and Sth QLD and were mainly made for family and friends ,or swapped or given away to fellow members of the Brisbane SFC.
Since moving to Nth QLD 25 years ago manufacture has only been the occasional lure for my own use.
I am now retired and as I love working with timber ,I have started making a few lures at the request of a neighbour and have got the lure making bug again.
I have now started to make enough to try my hand at the local markets If you are interested in Local Lures feel free to contact me 0407739586 (Ron)
The lures in the photo are(from top to bottom)
1..MacSnack
2... Tropical Treat
3..Mangrove Munchie
4..Nude Tropical Treat

Hi Ron, welcome to L/L - 40 years is a long time making these things and what you don't know about lures is probably not worth knowing.
Looking forward to seeing some more of your little creations.

First of all I want to thank LL members who took the trouble to welcome me to the site. Well I took my lures to our local markets for the first time today and got a big surprise, sold 20 plus lures in about 3 hours, now I'm refinanced to go and buy heaps of materials for future batches of lures.Looks like the gardening will be a bit slow for a while. Thanks again guys for the welcome.  RON

NEW LOCAL LURE>>
At the request of a fishing neighbour I have produced a shallow running lure
for fishing edges of weedbeds and sandbank dropoffs. On its first fishing trip to
Hinchinbrook passage it scored well with two Barra and a Jack. Although my
neighbour says he was so excited with the two Barra in two casts he forgot
to take a photo before he released them.Oh- has a 100mm body length.

Hi Ron, You won't remember me but I remember you from when you were a rep many years ago. I worked at Amart Allsports in 99. I am presuming this is the same Ron from Henderson Handcrafts. I love the look of your shallows as well as the tropical munchy. Looks like some new breeds soon for the tackle box.
Cheers Colin

Very nice Ron, very Richo'ish, but with a metal bib. Seeing he's no longer making, I think these will fill a niche.

Hi all,- I've been asked where the name LOCAL LURES came from.
About 30 years ago we left s.e.Qld and travelled south and then up the east coast by caravan. Before we left I roughly cut out a box full of lure bodies and bibs and carved and sanded them wherever we stopped.
As a joke my misses called them LOCAL LURES .When we returned to Brisbane six months later, the boys in the S.F. Club still called them that and the name stuck hence 26 years later in Cairns all lures made are still called LOCAL LURES.

Hi Guys,-- After reading through the latest posts on lure making efforts and paint finishes
I am just about ready to give up making my timber lures. Some of you fellas are real artists with the lure finishes and the hand punched scales --wow  .My lures catch fish but come a very distant  also ran
in the presentation stakes. Might just stick to making my wooden toys for the Salvos.
