Confused by the info recorded on lure, perhaps an indication of age.
  The later lures appear to have only Mepps recorded on them

I think you are right on the older lure indication. I have fished a lot off Mepps Spinners. Starting from the early 70´ties And cant remember using any with the British French patent on. Only the Frenc patent.
Have seing/bought these from auctions. Also from Sweeden

The older Mepps will have British French Patent or Brevette on the blades and made in France.
I've got a photo of some and will try to find

The first one with the feathered treble would probably be late 60's/70's. The second one would be 70's/80's . . . these are just guesstamites
