    Posted: 01 Jun 2010 at 11:52pm
Motivated and Inspired by Barry's setup I have started on my own net display tonight. I purchased some Nylon bird netting from Bunnings for $5.98 for a 4X4mt net and hammered in some picture hooks and cut and hung it to size on my wall which is right in front of the work computer in the office.  I have started hanging lures on it now and have to say that I wish I kept rear trebles on many of my lures as I have had to make new hangers from cut and bent paper clipsLOL The hardest thing now is working out what will go where and what space to leave for what as the collection grows. I think I should be able to fill the wall with lures in a couple of days and still leave the Newells in the cabinet beside the desk.

My wife thinks I am obsessed and I should spend more time with herLOL

A big bare wall, Barry I hung your lure firstWink

Patchy for now but give it a couple of days.
Alistair.

Off to a great start Al, it will be interesting to see the wall change over time - I take it you intend to let them grow organically to lessen the impact on your wife seeing them all at once? LOL
Cheers, Tony

Nice start Alistair.Hopefully the net has a bit of strength in it as when it is full there is a lot of weight distributed throughout.Even though you do not have closeups there are some nice lures there.Rob will be looking closely no doubt.
I have changed my net many times but in the end it is a good way to display and your Bunnings idea is very low cost and efficient.
Now all we have to do is wait for Tony to get his digit out and put his net up.
And by the way, don't let the missus trouble you, it is your office isn't it?

Across the top I have 30kg of rated hold in the hooks, plus I guess another 5 in large drawing style furniture pins so hope it will hold OKLOL. I would hate to be found by the family laying very still covered by 1000 hooks in a net one afternoonShocked

Yes it is my office, and I can do whatever my wife wants me to in it Wink

I think I will put the Kingfisher Mantis and New England collection up next as they will take up the biggest area. That will be a shock when they all come out at once.
Alistair.

If you ever end up on the floor,  with a net full of lures (trebles) on top of you...please get your wife to stop laughing for long enough to take a pic or ten! That would win any photo comp going I would think.

Leigh, how about instead I just set up the webcam for all to seeLOL

A few more up there now. I really am beginning to understand how many Barry must haveShocked And to think his are generally slimmer profile and stack much more closely compared to these big bibbed siuthern things. Kingfisher, New Englands and A&B's are done. Next might be the Garra's later today.

It looks like you are really getting the 'hang' of it!

How are you planning what goes where? Is there any order?

Any order? Doesn't look like it heyLOL

Basically New England based lures on the left and North coast and "others" (Like Decption, Whitmores) to the right. This means I have realised that the A&B's and JP's need moving . Size seems to count. 18 small Basswoods take up less room than 4 Kingfishers.  A hard thing to work out is if I will pull off my carded lures to hang such as all my BigRiver lures. Better to have them up and looking at than boxed away?

I might even chuck up some MudBugsWink

why not use your paper clip idea from the lures without trebles to hang the carded ones?

G'day Simon. It would certainly work but I think that the limited space I will have will not allow me to do it. I think I will take the lures off some of the cards (where easy without damage) but others like in blister packs or more connected to the card I will just leave in draws. Too be honest the placing of many carded brand new lures up for the wife to see may not be the best thing for my long term health eitherLOLLOL

It's getting there. It looks alot patchier in the pic than sitting in front of it. Hard to believe there is around 350 lures up there already. I have not counted Barry's pic yet but there would have to be well over 1000 on his net I recon.

Hi Allistair,
been looking at some of your photos you have posted, mainly with cod, granite rivers, awesome country!!
I try to get down around stanthorpe... ballandean area into Sundown national park and fish the severn river each year, my son jack is 11 and keener than any kid I know, he will flick lures all day and doesnt whinge if the fish are not on the chew!!

Are you in that general area? could you suggest a area that would be worth spending a few days walking the banks,  or we have a 3.85 explorer tinny for larger rivers or dams, or a 10 ft punt for smaller areas. Not yet into kayaks, although now jack is a bit older we will be looking into that for the future.

We are fully self sufficient camping wise, is there camp areas you could suggest? Absolutely love that Granite area, and to catch green fish on lures is our favourite fishing.
cheers Jason (NICHO)
Send a pm with any info if that suits.

Slowly filling in the gaps. Missing a few from here as the Gidgee and the Bobs keep making it into the tackle box for fishing. Might need to order 2 of each next timeLOL

Also need to start stripping out the unknowns and place then on a seperate wall for easier ID'ing.

Have not counted for a while but I know there are alot more than what one would first think. I have noticed that big bibbed cod lure dont hand as close together as Barry's barra lures. Makes his collection  even more awsome when you think about it.

Getting there slowly. Gaps to fill but learning to leave them beside the most likely luremakers that will be added to otherwise it is a reshuffle every time you add a fewConfused. Newells have there own free standing glass cabinet as do the Whitmores but the rest are are here. 98% aussie timber. Surprizing how tight the net has gottenLOL
