    Posted: 01 Aug 2015 at 7:01pm
During a trip to Tasmania almost 2 years ago I collected as many Tasmanian timbers as I could find to add to my display of nude OCD Sharkhead Prawns. After some encouragement from Robyn, I ended up doing 18 Prawns but some are different colourations of the same species of timber. I am pretty happy with how they turned out, hope you like them.

They are,
King Billy Pine, Huon
Tas. Myrtle, Celery Top Pine
Tas. Blackwood, Tas Oak
Leatherwood, Pencil Sassafras
Tas Myrtle, Sassafras
Spalted Myrtle, Spotted Myrtle
Tas. Blackwood, Tas. Oak
Sassafras, Macrocarpa
Black Hearted Sassafras, Tas. Ti Tree.
Cheers,

Gavin

Fantastic way to show off the Tassie timbers, Gavin Thumbs Up, and awesome looking lures.

Where did you find all of those different timbers?  I have only managed to make nudes from King Billy Pine. Celery Top Pine & Huon Pine.  Will have to look harder in October, when we are down for the Pedder Homebake Comp.

Travers, we went to Speciality Timbers at Strahan and at Geeveston. The guys at Geeveston were great, very helpful and cut small pieces off for me.
Cheers,

Gavin

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Hi Rick, to make one lure I need a piece 100mm long, 16/17mm wide & 20mm high. A piece of Musk Burl would be good to add to the set.
Cheers,

Gavin

Nicely done Gavin

I have a mate who maybe able to find something you do not have .

I will take a list with me when  visiting the Homebake and see if he cannot come up with something you have not covered to date.

I know it won't be 20mm but can you join it maybe ? It's very hard to get it in a burl so they slice it pretty thin about 10mm from where I brought it in Burnie.
Nice lure set , well done , which ones the Tas tee tree ? Dads burning heaps of that at the moment have to take a piece

Rick, I will join the musk burl if I need to, thanks.

John, Any other timbers from Tasmania would be greatly appreciated.

Chris, I have an Aussie display of 25 timbers, not that Tassie is not part of AustraliaLOL. The Aussie collection is slowly growing, thanks to some members who have given or sent me timber species. The slow part comes from the time it takes me to get around to making them...
Cheers,

Gavin

Thanks to Ricky Strang I have added a couple of more Tassie Timbers to the display. A few of the timbers I already had but not as nicely "figured" as these.

Thanks Rick.
