Haven't posted anything for a while, work has been crazy and I'm slowing getting on top of my lure orders, thank you to those that have been waiting patiently, lures are on there way soon.
Thought I share some pics of lures recently completed, Paul Kneller was kind enough to send me some beautiful timber which I haven't worked with before, so Paul I hope I have made it justice. First one is a Squid from Mangrove wood, very nice timber/colour, also carved a Squid from Birds Eye Redwood and Qld Maple, the Maple blew me away with a natural tiger pattern in the wood which would disapear and reappear as the wood is turned and tilted. Also carved my first baby Cuttlefish 50mm(Qld Maple). Further more with nude lures I've added pics of 90mm Pindari from Huon Pine and King Billy Pine and 85mm Mac-ray. And some pics of 50mm Shrimps gold/silver leafed and painted.

Ollie, that Qld. maple with the now you see it, now you don't, tiger pattern reminds me of how the cuttlefish "light-up" when they're involved in their mating displays. Absolutely fantastic !!!
Is that a peacock inspired gold leaf/paint scheme? So many questions and so many ideas. I'm going back for another look.....

Congratulations, they are fantastic,
Col

Thank you for your comments.

@ Shane, The Criterion Hotel timber sure came up nice, really nice deep red in colour, after talking to Tony he mentioned a fire went through the Hotel in the 70's.

@ Col, also reminded me of the colour shifts in all the cephlapods, we have observed these on night dives, spectacular stuff.

@ Paul, can see why it's your favourite timber, never seen so much shift of pattern in timber before, very nice, will certainly be using more of it.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Ollie

Nice pieces of art Ollie Clap

Those top 3 are some of the nicest nudes I have seen.
The eyes are cool as Thumbs Up
The mangrove one is the first one IDE pick up to buy if they were in a shop.

Great way to lift the bar a few inches there, Cheers Rick

Thanks everyone.
@ Aaron, not sure what type of timber you have maybe it was a dud, or I got lucky with this piece of timber but have seen display boxes etc made from Qld maple and it had the same pattern.

@ Dave, no trade secret for the eyes happy to share this info, will get some step by step pics together on the weekend as others had the same question. Will post them asap.

Aaron your QLD Maple isn't broken mate LOL, the fiddle back Maple is off cuts I had here from larger crutch slabs. It is angry stuff from where a major branch leaves the main trunk. Cheers Paul.
