Wasn't Sportex an Aussie company? I remember the rods - from the 70's I think.

Ive still got an old sportex rod from the 70, s .
It was originally used as a high speed spin O H with a seascape 6 2 1 major. It was dads, and I flogged it to death fishing for drummer on the Mid Nth Coast of NSW in the 80, s. Had a short butt. Used to cast with left hand on the reel, right hand up towards the stripper guide, and I could chuck a wonder pilchard a mile with it. Used it for everything, pigs, jew, tailor, and caught my 1st longtail and mack tuna on it too. Its really the combo that started my obsession with fishing. Thanks for posting that old reel, id never seen one like it. |

Sportex were in fact English, made in Sheffield. Somewhere about the 1960's they started manufacturing in Germany also. Nowadays Sportex is a German brand, stopped making reels and concentrated on rods.
