its got crack lines all down the body that are about to open up

is there anything you can do about this.....or can i prolong the day when it actually cracks...?
any tips appreciated,

Cheers

Had a few like that myself Ben.As temps, humidity etc change day by day the lines will open up more and more till the paint seperates the line if you know what i mean.As far as i know this cant be stopped. If it can be id like to know as well.Got a few old timbers here that are going and have gone that way and lose value in time cause of this...One stage i thought to do the clear coating again then thought well they wont be original anymore if i did that.Disapprove
Good question though...

Yeah its a bugger when the cracks get worse. I also considered recoating but like Nando, haven't done it due to not being original any longer. One thing I have considered is something like the paint restorers they use on faded auto paint or maybe even armourall to soften the paint and slow the decay down. I think the problem is mainly encountered on acrylic paints as the old enamels probably still have an oil component even after many years and are generally 'softer' than acrylics. once the timber below is exposed it will naturally absorb moisture from the air and then dry out when hot, furthering the advance of cracking.
Anyone tried polish/restorer/armourall ???
