Hope this is the right forum for it. Just pondering to myself. For those of you who make lures on a regular basis (ie. Business/high output etc), what sort of numbers do you produce in a set time frame from carving to ready to ship? Just always wondered.

I can squirt out 100 in a week if I had to, mind you that's working after the day job from around 5 pm to midnight every night.
I find it's just as easy to make ten as it is to make one........ I usually do about 30 - 50 a week comfortably and still have time to watch TV......... |

Ah righto.I'm thinking about making a dozen or so a week once I get half decent at it. Just like to think it won't take me too long Lol.

As all would know, hardest part is cutting and shaping, I try to cut and shape ten a day and build up a stock pile ready to paint, it's easy and quick from then on to bib and hook 'em. But geesus, it's chews into my fishing time.........
In the early '90's when I had them in several tackle shops across the Top End I was putting out over 200 a week but I had an offsider that helped with the majority of the shaping.......the only payment he ever asked for was to be supplied cans of Jim Beam when we sold at the weekly Markets....... |

Gee I feel bad, I'm on about one a week at the moment, but I do have a three year old girl that seeks a lot of attention and another on its way so I got about 8 months to do as many as I can.
Been working on a new surface lure will post some picks soon |

It' changes week to week. Some weeks no lures at all, just don't feel the love. Other weeks 20 maybe 25 if pushed. This will be a mix of designs as I'm not one to pump out the same lure. I know it's not affective but keeps the joy in it. This is working a 0.7 load 4 days one week, 3 days the other.

I dont sell much only on request or at the expo each year.
I find cutting and shaping and sanding about 6 to 10 A day is enjoyable after work...but if im not in the mood it may be only be one in 3 months. In prep for expo with a deadline i was doing about 25 to 30 a week from start to completed product..but didnt really enjoy it...if i didnt work im sure more could be done. My problem is i start with one shape in mind and as it evolves i go with how im feeling and everything changes....but that makes it fun for me. |

Sometimes I'll churn out as many as I possibly can, depending on work and other commitments. I might finish 20 in a week if i'm really keen.

As a ex commercial lure maker two of the dirtiest words Production you can use around me are "Production Rate". Since I got back into Lure Making, production rate is the last thing on my mind, to me if I make ten lures in a week it just means I had nothing better to do that week or was just plain bored if I can sell a few lures then that great if not so be it. Production Rate, not a worry to this old lure maker
Cheers Warren

As a full time (7 hours per day ) lure maker I can push out 40 per week. The slowest part for me is shaping them, just to get the same shape right and sometimes the shape could be out by 2mm but still produce the same action. Blinky you need to come down here (Sunshine Coast Twin Waters) to help me out and I will pay you with a carton of xxxx Beer! If you don't come down I have to get that old dog Carl Grist to help me! Cheer's Dave
