    Posted: 24 Sep 2016 at 11:29am
After two days crook in bed with the flu and starting to go a bit crazy I thought I'd better duck out to the local dam just to have a quick throw with a lure.
The water looked pretty coloured with all the rain we had been getting of late . It's pretty snaggy around the edge at the moment because this is the first time the dam has been full since the wall was raised a bit extra.
Luckily there was no-one else about so I got my choice spot. Also quite luckily the was a decent cod about.
Caught on one of my yabby lures in the Rods n cods colour scheme.

Arse beats class every time.
Purple and yellow did the damage today.
My Calcutta TE200 has never had such a workout.
Even dad got one today (though I am disgusted to say not on one of my lures).
All up I caught two and lost a 3rd and dad caught one. It seems to be a situation where I've found "the spot" pretty hard to get a touch anywhere else.

Pretty quiet trip today...until.
The cod was just a smidge under 900mm. Really nice and solid fish.
Yellow and black kaditcha's, gotta love 'em.

It's generally not a spectacular fight with a cod, though sometimes they do a lot a lunging and splashing near the bank. They stay deep and head for cover using their weight. Great fun to get a good one though.
Great to see a big one swim away again too.

I'm going to cry when the cod go off the bite.
Some of the best lure fishing I've had in years.
Lots of casts between fish, when one finds the lure ,it's usually a good one.

I've been a bit busy the last couple of weeks, not a chance to work on lures or get out and fish, so when I had a free day with decent weather off I went.
Just a little one for starters

Then the better one showed up. One of the best fights i've had from a cod, lucky to get her in past the snags.

She almost has a belly as big as mine.

I haven't managed to get out there yet this season.
Fishing been a bit quiet the last couple of times I was there.
Last year a couple of good freshes brought the cod on the bite.

The new dam is the one to fish...naturally occurring yellowbelly and catfish....stocked cod.
The old dam would have had slipperies once...all gone now and was stocked with trout back in the day...also all gone.
