When I'm collecting lures, I am happy to pay more for an early "Mint" condition lure than a later "Mint" edition. Most lures you need to have a lot of knowledge on them to identify the old from the new, especially if they are mint, (look like they have been painted yesterday) Some lures are easier than others to identify the time line with. Different shaped or sized eyelets, or paint jobs or even the quailty of the dotted eyes. With the McFeeters range I notice there are two different signatures, single T and dual Initials T & J ! Does anyone know the time line on the Start of T & J and then the start of T, also the date of the last lure Trevor made ? Then we all could have a better idea when looking at the McFeeters lures, just how old some of these lures are. Would also help me in my valuation of potential new lures into my collection !! What age roughly are these and should I pay more for one than the other? I want Mint condition lures !!! I like Dual Initials for the common colours and models.
The harder to get coulours on the common model I don't care if they are dual or single Initials.
The really hard to get models, I don't care what conition or even if they are signed ! just want them !!!!

To true Brett !
There are so many more single signature ones around and in numbers ! Mint or not ! Older has to be the premium of the two ! You've got two mint Ferrari 's , Ones from 5 yrs ago the other is 30 years old !!!!! Or a bottle of whiskey that's 75 yrs old And another that's 15 -yrs old ! To be a true purist ! U need to appreciate true vintage !!!! And respect properly |

Nice lures Brett.
I think it really depends on the collector and for what reason they are collecting. For the $$ or the love of a great lure made buy the same person for the same reason. I myself like them all dual or single signed and I would think most would. |

Hi Brett, Nice lures mate all of them! Just a couple of dates from my conversations with Trevor. Dates to be confirmed All the above info I have got over numerous conversations with Trevor, many before the lure Expo and a few after the Expo. Very soon I am making the effort to go Visit him and would like to do a decent Bio on McFeeters lures and the maker. Most if not all of his belonging to do with lures has gone to his Sons or to someone whom may show to the public one day. Just recently he said he doesn’t even have an Aussie 200 for himself so I think I will take one up and hand it over to Trevor. Well that’s just a little bit of info I know and it is factual as much as I have been told! Below, is a pic of my 2 Super Darts, one Dual and one Single signature ! note both have different size eyes and this is only the fact he picked up the 2 inch or the 3 inch nail head to make the eyes. Which do I value the most BOTH of them I once used to size a lure by the stripes but both these lures are different one has 6 the other has 7 stripes. The Aussie 200 below i thought was an old one due to the Crease in the BIb but by the signing not so. I don't have one with the Bib like this so it is another time frame McFeeters I don't have. And the other lure with it I have no Idea of time frame for this lure Except I would buy it even without a signature on it. One to make Stinger feel at ease, this Aussie 200 has the tow point soldered the wrong way round and to me is valuable . And the 201's below I don't care what Signatures or hooks they have on them and to me are priceless ! Brett, I collect Trevors lures for the passion and give his product the respect i think they deserve, I never chase one of his lures for monetary value. And as for rare colours I gave up on that as he painted what ever colour people wanted them besides the main stream colours. Cheers Tony |

Thanks Tony, I always thought that the dual signature was Trevors and the other signiture was either someone who helped him or the result of a mini stroke or some other medical condition. Thank you very much for clearing that up. With the oval rings I was told that Trevor and Peter Newell and Rob Gaden use to split the order between them. To make it easier to handle the large orders of them.
As for monitory value I think each and every brand of lure goes through boom periods with prices. It is a financial gamble just like the share market. Knowing when to sell and buy is something that I am at a lose with. Regards Chris |

Great info Tony, thanks very much for providing that !!
Leanrt a lot about McFeeters Tenterfield lures. again thank you !
Aussie 200 dual initials might be 30 years old,
Aussie 200 single initial might be 9 years old.
Both in Mint condition !!!
which one would be the pride of my McFeeters collection, no contest, DUAL !!!!!!

Hi Brett, I totally agree if I could have every Mcfeeters in my Collection Dual I would love that, and some may value that worth more money not me ! But Brett I appreciate your view totally, From my collecting to fill a colour set, I traded a mint Daul Signature Mini Dart for a Mini dart in a colour i was chasing purely to fill a void and did not blink doing so and this Mini Dart i received did not have any signatures at all on it. Horses for courses and love them all the same , as with as much passion as you your Stumpy's PS, i'll take one of your XL's with the single Signature

Going thru paperwork The contract finishing design contract is dated 14th July 1988 and Tenterfield Lures business name registration is dated 3 March 1988. The eyes on the small Aussie 200 were the early ones. Trevor stated that no Dart should be unsigned but we know that is not true, obviously some snuck thru. Debbie D

My way of aging Trevor's lures is by the unopened packaging I acquired lately. The cream package top has T&J McFeeters 83 Bulwer St Tenterfield but the lure has only T McFeeters hand written on it (all on the left column in the photo) The yellow package plus 5 above it have T&J McFeeters on lures as well as package top New England Hwy. Then the rest have in smaller running writing done by Trevor after the divorce and when he had the shop up to 2002. Notice that light red/white, Yellow/whiteand brown/white have a crease in the bib as in screen door material (Early) Debbie D

If Trevor's ex did all the T & J signatures it looks to me as if she then signed some just T McFeeters.
(Just looking at the writing style, the f in particular)
So did she drop herself out of the lure partnership but keep signing before she separated
leaving Trevor to start signing in the new signature?
Cheers,Jim

Jim I tend to agree with you on the lettering but again it hard to verify. Something Debbie said of the creasei in the Bib being early but the lures I have and seen only one signature appears on the lure. In the end I collect the lure and not the signature although it would be nice to have all lures with the dual signature. Cheers tony

Good questions and I was going back to that. I visited Trevor yesterday and I asked him to check on time spans. He said he didn't sign his signature alone until after his ex. Jennifer signed all the lures prior.
Left hand column is signed T McFeeters by his ex even though it was in a bag labelled T&J McFeeters. They are early ones with a crease and oval split rings. My guess not confirmed yet early1988 til when he moved to New England Hwy. Then the yellow label is marked T&J McFeeters, New England Hwy and signed the same along with the 5 darts above. Next 5 above were signed by Trevor (Lefthanded) after the ex 1993- 1996 till shop closed 2002. Not many lures were made in the time of separation til divorce as he did a go slow. Aussie 200 was released in 1988. I will do a history soon. Debbie Dare.

Debbie thanks for the info you can help us with, and it is great to get the history from the maker himself with the help of a friend. Await any other things you can help with and if you could start a new thread in the McFeeters area that would be great.

Note that 15 out of 20 lures have oval split rings. Only the 5 later models (top right) have round rings.

So when did Trevor start making his own lures for sale? And when did he start making lures in the first place at all?
Tony, re that other issue re dates, no I did not read any of this post prior to today so was in the dark there.
Debbie, thanks for the info here. Would be really good to get those early dates down pat for future collectors reference.

Did not Trevor make his own lures though before registration? I would of assumed that there would of been a lead up time where he made lures which were either sold locally (such as to locals, fishing club members, pubs, servo's etc) before taking the step of a business registration. I dont know the history of Trevor so maybe he went from working for Peter straight into this business phase?? generally I expect that most makers go from amateur carving for own use to making for a few mates before ever selling a lure so would be interested to hear how Trevor progressed through his early stages of lure making before a lure was ever sold.

He worked for Peter Newell and an agreement was had to sort out who could legally make what- finalised paperwork as per above post 14th July 1988. Business name was 3rd March 1988, so Trevor was prepared to start work. Aussie 200 and Dart released 1988. He lived at 83 Bulwer St then. Debbie Dare.

So was it just the opportunity to aquire work that got him into making lures and was this the first time he made a lure?. If so then that would have to be pretty unique for any of the well known makers of collectable lures.

I do have a few lures that Trevor started testing, 2 versions of flatfish and some small nuggety rough lures. He had enough designs to go on with.
