    Posted: 08 Nov 2011 at 3:54pm
These are some lures I made early on before I started Illusion Lures. Carved with an old timer pocketknife, full wires and brush painted. I had a ball chasing bass and trout with them Smile
Red Cedar Yabby made in 1986

Red Cedar Frog 1986, the bib on this was heated with a lighter and moulded to shape
Another Red Cedar creation From 1987. The body is 3cm
A nearly nude version of a Min Min I made in the late 80's
An early Phoenix. I think I made this in 1988 or 89
A suspending lure from 1988
A Trout lure from Tasmanian Oak 1992 or 93
A yabby from 1990
An unfinished frog body from Huon pine carved in 1992 While I was at Uni in TAS.

Cheers
 Wal

not as prety as your recent ones, but would of caught plenty of fishWink
good to see the early creations......thanks for showing us......they are cool dudes.Thumbs Up
Bass would love all of them.
I love simple things that people have done, they deserve as much respect as any other handmade/handcarved/homemade/whatever lure.

Thanks guy's. It's been a trip down memory lane unpacking stuff I haven't looked at for a while.
I found some pics of some other lures
I think this pic was taken in 1988 or 1989.
The smallest lure I ever sold. I made a heap of these for trout while I was in Tasmania
Hard at work in 2002 LOL
A Jester on a signed card, I never signed lures. There were 29 of the Jew lures like this given away after i stopped production of them in 2004. This is the only one I have Confused

I'm putting a frog back into production, I'll keep you posted

Cheers

Wal

I don't suppose you sold some of those really early yabbies through Bryan Pratt's shop in the ACT - I have an unknown from that ear that looks very similar - was sold in a Pratt packet.

A long shot I know.
Life is like a box of chocolates - so why do I keep losing fillings on the hard centres??

I made a couple of hundred yabbies between 1986 and 1991, I'm not sure any would have ended up in Canberra unless they were sourced through one of Dad's Army mates.

This is the first 16cm Wedgetail prototype with a Mulloway from Lennox Point,
I watched the fish chase the lure across in 6'' of water sucking back off the stones with its back out of the water to nail it at my feet in the moonlight.

Clockwise from top left, One of the first lures I made when I started chasing Mulloway, A 10cm Jewel, Fatso (A widebody Wedgetail without the wedge, this later became "Black Betty"), Black Betty, 15cm minnow and my last surviving 16cm Wedgetail prototype

By putting a heavy single balled rattle inside a brass tube with superball rubber endcaps  in the head  of the Black Betty I could get a dynamic rate of rattle that destabilized the lure occasionally while creating 2 distinct sounds, one high pitch, one low.
