Picked up a few lures from Ray when I caught up with him. I actually took a heap of pics of lures and pics of his own photos whilst there but have lost it all in a hard drive crash that so far is unrecoverableCry.

Happy to have these though. All lures stated by Ray were made by him and got him to sign a few for me. The little Yellow/brown Nipper looking lure is a through wire (front towpoint into the body) and maybe Paul can advise if he thinks it is a hybrid???.

Naked Lady & Blank

Some little ones. The little red one is a cracker I think. It just looks like some little bug.

I got the bottom lure which is the same as what was commonly thought of as the Whitmore Barra, which is not called that but I will need to ring Ray back and asked as I forgot its real nameConfused. Anyway, the green lure with the hand drawn frog pattern has had a deep diving cray bib put in it making it fairly unique.

Some blanks of that Barra type lure. I think I might get one of them finished by another maker for another Hybrid to the collection.

A little no name.

Here are some pics he gave me of Mega Boomers showing some of the colours. Would give a left one for these in the fleshWink

I think the Barra's real name was "The All Rounder".
Some excellent info & lures there Alistair.

Thanks for posting Alistair, just spent the last hour going thru older Whitmore posts.
Amazing paint jobs let alone lure designs.

Cheers

He certainly knows how to finish a lure. Before collecting them I would of sworn they were plastic they are so uniform and good the finish.

It is always interesting listening to this calibre of lure designer about how they see a scenario of what a fish may be doing/ hunting/ moving and make a lure that will fit into that scenario and trigger a response from the fish. It is what separates a real lure designer from those who can just make lures that swim.

G'day Alistair, No that is one of Ray's lures. I am pretty sure Allan is correct on the Barra lure being called the All Rounder, Cheers Paul.

Ahh, excellent. Good to be 100% sure, you passed on too many blanks to be painted by Ray which made me wonder.  as you know , I love the Hybrids so was a winner either way.

Can you tell us what the differences were then between this lure and your Nippers for future reference?

If you put them together you will see a pretty big difference, that is actually a scaled down version of my series 2 Yabby, the Deception Nipper is a scaled down version of the Shrimp.

After doing so I can see the differences. Can certainly see the Yabby in it now. Just a little bit chunkier as well.

Good stuff Alistair. That little orange ringed bug type diver with the nose tow point and red eyes is a corker. The sunburnt orange lace highlights poking through the darker brown/black looks unreal. A standout that little lure for sure.

Cheers,

Danny.

The biggest

I don't think there'd be too many people on this site that wouldn't find that little lure appealing though. Awesome.

Cheers,

Danny.
