Here is a pic of my split ring pliers I cut the top handle longer than the bottom handle I transferred the off cut from the top handle to the bottom and vice versa then tig welded them together. The red lines are at 45 degrees in the first pic the second pic I kept my thumb out of the way so you can how it lays in my hand
They are so much more comfortable and natural feeling when in use, but they look weird The pliers came from Super Sleep $8.00 for a set of 3 I ground the bottom jaw 3mm short, then heated the top jaw with map gas when bright red I pounded the tip over the bottom jaw by stabbing a of steel 8mm plate Then grind to the size of the split ring you wish to fit Sorry about the upside pic |

I can not claim the Idea I was in Bunning on the shelf was an German made NWS electrical pliers in the pistol grip format for $55.00 when I wrapped my hand around it I was stunned, nearly purchased them
