Hi, just wondering if anyone has used stainless steel Aircraft Locking Wire for twisted eyes ?
Thanks in advance for any feedback. Col |

Plastic is for storing lures, not making them.

Yep, use the .028" for my small lures. Been using it for nearly 50 years. Had a plentiful supply in the RAAF! LOL...

As Fysshe says, can get plenty of lockwire when working around super-sonic jets! Standard size is 0.032". Personally, I think lockwire is too soft for anything but little lures designed for fairly little fish. It is designed to be bent and twisted, so it's good in that regard. But because it bends easily, it can cause lures to require re-tuning due to bent tow-points after a tussle with a decent fish. Re-tuning isn't difficult I suppose, but when you want to get your lure back in the water quick - that's when it annoys you.

I got a spool of 1.1 mm or 0.041" from a company called All Things Stainless. A lot cheaper than the Mason Down Under wire I was using in that size. I take your point about using for tow points so will only use it for hook eyes then.

Col, I reckon the 1.1mm will be OK for towpoints as well! Its' ductile strength is similar to the Mason wire.
