Hi all just started messing around with making my own stickbaits.
Came up with a few shapes etc and tested them on the water but they just seem to swim straight and have no left to right swimming action. I have weighted the back end for casting. Can anyone please give me sum tips to achieve a good swimming action. Should also mention that i tried working the lure different ways with the rod on retrieval but just not happy with them. Cheers

It's all just trial and error but try-
1/ add weight at different points eg- near the head, belly hook hanger, may not need to be much 2/ don't have a flat surface on the nose so the nose can swing one way then the other rather then just pushing it like a popper. Try different nose shapes 3/ how big is your belly hook? That might be stabilising it's path. I found with stickbaits that to get more swing then I use 2 split rings for the belly hook. 4/ try different tow point positions

Thanks for the tips mate.
The lure is around 25cm long. Pretty sure i put 8/0 hook on the belly and back. I got a bit carried away and finished off the lure before swimming it. Rookie error and i wont be doing that again. Like i mentioned i did add weight to back of lure. Its still boyant at the moment. Will have a play around and add sum to front. |

Preface - I don't make lures at all.
But... I think it likely that the tow point with have the most effect. Bend it down a little for a start. Another thing I have found which is quite common overseas but not here is don't tie a loop knot. Rather, tie hard on to the eyelet, and you can experiment with what part of the eyelet allows for best action (again, my guesstimate would be tying lower on the eye). If all else fails, throw it at tuna and just wind fast.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Will definitely keep the eyelet position in mind
