I have two wooden Stumpjumpers that I bought from Rex Hunts tackle store in Melbourne in the 1980s. In comparison with mine (which I know are genuine and unfished) and excluding the possibility that this is a prototype of some kind, the hooks look to have been changed, the eye looks a bit different and I am ucertain about the paint colours and pattern. I could be wrong of course but I think it more likely to be refurbished than original. Regards, Ken.

I have been looking again at the JJs section and some of the earlier Stumpjumpers that pre date mine. The eye (off centre) and the hooks (coated) might be right for lures of that vintage and it seems that the colours were less standardised then. So it might well be an early original. Regards, Ken.

Thanks Ken for your thoughts on this lure, i have had a look at most of the older Pic's of Stumpy's I can find and this is an original all right ! Hard for me to tell as I have not held any very old ones in my hand, Thought one of the hard core collectors of this makers lures could have helped in my question. we will wait and see i suppose. Cheers Tony

Can't always tell by pics !!
I was fooled last year in April, pics looked good ! The lure that fooled me is now in my hands and although it is a great lure, it's smaller, not quite the right colour and feels different, its no Stumpy !! Thanks again, Fyshee and Shane !!!!!!!!!!!! |

Well It's not April 1st so we can rule that out I suppose !! Seems others have asked the Ebay seller questions and with the answers he has given it is a very early lure of Johns. Someone even tried to buy it out of the Auction but was refused ! So thanks for all the very helpful info !!
