My brother in law has just pulled down a privacy screen the previous owner of his house put up.
He assumed it would all be pine but was surprised to find nice looking hard wood boards.
He has just made a dining table and working on a coffee table and had the local timber mill have a go at IDing it.they came back with Tas. Blackwood.
I gather it's not a super common timber?
Is anyone interested in whatever offcuts he ends up with?
Just want to know if I should stop them going in the fire place...

Looks nice finished, but I heard off Dave when I was in Tassie , it's very toxic stuff (dust) - Logs laying all over the place down there.

Tasmanian Blackwood is a prize cabinet timber but you are correct re it's dust can cause chronic lung conditions - so best practice dust extraction is needed. It is quite dense as well so I'd say it would make for good sinking lures. Cheers.

That's a nice peice you've made and great grain , Blackwood scares the hell out of me with the spures in the dust so be very carful with your clean up mate , I'm sure your well aware but seen too many older wood workers here on oxygen tanks through that stuff not to mention it again for others.
Beautiful peice
Cheers Rick
