This Historical account of Old Man Lures was created based on discussions I have had with Bob Adams Son Jeff, in addition to other  information that Jeff kindly provided me with. Thank you Jeff for your time and effort in assisting to let us know a little more about these great Lures, and how your "Old man" and yourself made them. Clap

Bob Adams hard at work making Old man Lures
Bob Adams Hard at workBob Adams made the "Old Man" lures from approx 1987 to approx 1994 in Dundowran, a suburb of Hervey Bay Queensland.

Bob's son Jeff Adams continued production of the lures from 1995 to 1998.

The Old Man lures had a reputation as being a tough, well made lure for tough fish. An Old Man Lure held the PNG All Tackle record for a Spanish Mackeral caught on a "Mini-Donger".

Every minnow that was purchased and shipped had the "Old Man" brand written on either the bib or the belly of the lure. (some of the lures I have pictured in this article do not have the brand written on them as they came from Bob and Jeff's personal tackleboxes.)

Jeff's recollection is that the "Donger" and the "Superdonger" had the Old Man brand name written on the belly, and the smaller lures were normally written on the bib. The bibless Old Man Lures had no branding at all.

Here's the Old man Lures production line:

Here's an old price list for Old man Lures from about 1990, the prices were in dollars not pounds Smile

This is a great reference as it lists the majority of Lures made under the Old Man brand and includes length of the lures - invaluable information to help identify the models. As far as Jeff is aware the "Chop Bone" is the only Old Man Lure not listed in this price list - Only 12 "Chop Bone" Lures were ever made.

The Old Man SuperDonger lures pictured below are the prototypes mentioned in this article.

Here's a quote from Jeff that cracked me up, but gives an idea of the lures effectiveness: LOL

"I'm sending you 1 of the 3 prototypes of the Old Man Superdonger that dad built for us to take to Cato and Wreck Reef back in October 1989. It's even got gal wire eyelets as he didn't have any SS wire big enough at the time! Slightly chewed up, but you should see the other 2!"
