Just picked up these RD's in mint condition.

Does anyone know how the dimpled effect is achieved?

Not so sure it would done by hand, it’s pretty much replicated on each lure.

I think you may find the bodies are done on a copy lathe and the "Dimples" are grooves left by the cutting tool.

I would hazard a guess that either the timber stock was loose or moving ? but because so many of the lures are like that,  the cutting tool or tip\tips\teeth were maybe vibrating or moving.

Not a simple question to answer unless you know or are familiar with the particular copy lathe, and as most back in those times were built add lib by the lure maker one would need to see the machine to find the problem. Definitely not made like that on purpose.

Martin posted recently that a young chap from Daintree north of Mossman, purchased all the BarraKing machinery from the Dau estate.
Time will tell if the dimples appear in his output.
