My previous post showed you how to make a minnow lure from a tablespoon. This idea also came in handy making a topwater creature bait similar to Heddon's Spoon except using soft plastic instead of hard plastic.

1. Pour hot plastic into a tablespoon or serving spoon depending on preferred size.
2. Dip the front pointed section to thicken for hook placement
3. Add silicone skirt strands to the rear and super glue to hold
4. Use a wide gap, offset hook Texas rigged and fish the weeds or near hard structure such as rock wall or rocky points on a cloudy day.

Old plastic works as well as new plastisol.

I call it the Turtle .....

Here are other ideas for tails:

Any way you get  a piece of cork, or say foam inside the plastic to keep it higher  or on top of the water column.

Not necessary if you don't add salt. Soft plastic has less hardener than salt water plastic and floats.
The sink rate is very slow and the lure is easy to keep on top using a slow retrieve. It waddles nicely with rod twitches and drives bass and pickerel nuts!
