    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 at 6:50am
Anybody have a preference for using a particular coloured treble for their type of fishing in their area.

There appears to be four main colours available.

Red, Bronze, Silver and Dark steel.

The one I have not used is the red coloured treble.

I have ordered some just to see if they happen to change  the strike rate.

Is  there been anybody else having a play / experimenting  in this area.

Regards John

If I was fishing at night John like you do I would use Black for Trout, due to its contrast is the most visible color under most conditions and best at night.

I have found Red works for me (probably just a mind thing) but when Barra fishing it's red only.

I too prefer red for barra, as well as tailor, mackerel, tuna, queenfish - any of the highly predatory fish as I have in my mind that the fish mistakes the red hooks as a blood outlet.

20 or thirty years ago it always used to be bronze tebles for the freshwater  and stainless ,galvanised or bronze for the salt.I'm not really sure about the red but i'd say Warren and Martin would be on the money,it'd be interesting to see how they go on the trout(maybe Bass tooBig smile).I can tell you bronze and black tinned trebles work well in fresh water as thats what i usually use John

Its a bit like lures...all you really need is black or white to cover dark or light contrast...lets face it if you throw a lure in the right place at the right time, and the fish is in feed/ or territorial mode, the lure gets hit regardless of colour...maybe different colour hooks are for the same reason as pretty colour lures? to catch fisherman first and secondly maybe a fish if put in the right spot at the right time, will we ever know!?

On light colored lures I will use red (lime tiger ,red heads, yellows tiger. On bass black, especially surface lures I have seen bass pause on red trebbles on the same colored lure when their a little quite I don't claim to know why But around Kempsey I don't use red bronze or black only. Having said that at the back of Parramatta Stadium I only nailed bass red trebbled diving lures and the water is grayish only shallow divers, those shopping carts are a bastard
Around Narrabri ,Manilla, Tamworth and Collarenebri
I use red but I am not brave enough to say their better

My 2 cents worth and I may be over priced
