BOB in your post you've already mentioned most of the equipment required when trolling for tailor, Id suggest a boat would be a very good start also.

If slow trolling, lures like Abu Tobys work well, but timber minnows are also good. I don't get bitten off too much whenever trolling or casting to the tooth brigade. I don't use wire when luring for tailor, mackeral, tuna etc., just a length of heavier line as a leader. For tailor 6 kg is usually suffice for luring from a boat - can go a far bit lighter. If using small lures that could get swallowed, then I would use wire.
