Hi all,

Have been fishing for a few cod and decided that it would be awesome to make a few surface lures for them. So here is what I have so far, you all probably know where the inspiration comes from id imagine. Im Just wondering where to now? Im going to twist the eyes up and glue them in with 24hr Araldite. Im thinking to join them i will use 2 twisted rings maybe joined by a split ring maybe twisted together. First lure I have shaped and dare i say it....... it moused swim!!!!! haha any input would be greatly
 appreciated

Cheers,

Mitch

Well done on giving it a go, and it swimsClap.  2 sets of rings to make it stronger sounds good. I have been thinking lately (rare) with all of the jointed surface lures coming out now, that maybe a single thick wire join with the hook hanger coming off that may be a go rather then having it come from the body?

Hay Mitch,
I would twist two eyes together so you don't have any weak links, just make sur you put plenty of glue in holes before screwing in wires, looks good mate
Cheers
Dave.

Hey Mitch, plenty of speedway where you are, go see someone with a sprint car and get some of the wire they use to mouse nuts and bolts so they don't come loose. Doesn't matter if it's gal, it will work fine.
Cheers Steve

I was only thinking the same this week after seeing a pic of FB where it looked like they had done that but bottom pic showed they had not. My thoughts were that it would make sense in 1 way but may be prone to getting caught on the cast between the bodies.

Gee that came up well- niceClap. Does the hook get tangled on the bib with the front hook hanger that far forward (pet hate of mine - ruined many a good cast)?

In regards to wire availability , get down to your local welding supplies and get some 1 mm stainless TIG wire , this is a common size used in the industry .
Fishing ??? Lets do it !!!!!!!!!!

Nah doesn't tangle with bib, seems to be fine that far forward, that was a freak design, did not need to mess with it at all as it casts goods, self rights if lands up side down, makes good noise and bubble trail and starts action first crank of handle

Although i still haven't got the wire i should be using i have pressed on and have used some wire i had lying about and painted 4 of them. waiting for the Envirotex lite to arrive so i can clear them then cast them. Most of them are big so i have added some sinkers to the chest to get them to self right and epoxied them in and sanded it back to scratch. Skipped the sealing stage as all of the wood sealing stuff is very pricey. so i went for spray black epoxy primer and paint in one. I have done a few coats per lure and sanded in between. I will paint the eyes up this afternoon then I will post some photos tonight or tomorrow. Should i sand the paint back before i add the clear coat? and any tips with the Envirotex as from what i hear it a fickle one.

The rivers are up quite a bit for this time of year, very hard work at the moment especially on foot or kayak and they won't be going down soon. Not trying to stop you, just giving a heads up.

On the plus side, it's good for the river health and there are plenty of fish around.

so the original rat wake bait i made didnt swim so i made a new one. all the lures painted black worked and the new nude paddler  hasnt been tested but im worried it wont role  over because i didnt put weights in it. however if thats the case i will drill it and put weights in. I used Envirotex lite for the clear but it feels a little soft so im not sure what happened there.....

new wake design. Hope it works this time. Influenced design from JJs Plague so dont shoot me down for copying. Its taken influences from it but in no way is the same. Bib design is different and head shape is different also.
